NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula [X1 and X4 are H, CH3 or CH2OH; X4 may be CH2O.COR (R is 7-21C aromatic or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon carboxylic acid residue); X2 and X3 are H, OH or OCOR; either one of X2-X4 is carboxylic acid ester group, and either two of X1-X4 are OH, CH2OH or their carboxylic acid ester group]. EXAMPLE:1-Oleyloxyethan-2-ol. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:The objective compound can be produced by (1) dissolving the corresponding carboxylic acid compound and dimethylformamide in a nonpolar solvent, adding oxalyl chloride dropwise to the solution in an inert gas element under cooling, stirring the reaction mixture, and exchanging the solvent with benzene, (2) adding triethylamine, etc., to the corresponding ethylenediol compound in dichloromethane under cooling (3) adding the liquid produced by the step (1) dropwise to the reaction product (2) in an inert gas element, (4) extracting with a nonpolar solvent and (5) purifying the extract by column chromatography.
