PURPOSE:To expand the physical quantity which determines the discharge characteristics of the panel to the maximum within a given range, by elongating the distance between display discharge cells in a direction which allows easier discharge between the display discharge cells, to make selection electrode pitch and holding electrode pair pitch different. CONSTITUTION:A gas discharge panel of surface discharge structure is formed by arranging holding electrodes 11, 11' which made 1 set with 2 pieces in longitudinal direction and arranging selection electrodes 13 via a insulation layer laterally on a lower glass substrate which functions as an electrode supporting substrate. Selection cells 1t1-1t4 of panel are placed at the intersects of the holding electrodes 11, 11' and selection electrode 13. Panel display cells Cc1-Dc4 are placed adjacent to the cells 1t1-1t4 to make pairs. By elongating the distance Dg1 between the display cells Dc1-Dc4 in thedirection which allows easier discharge between the cells 1t1-1t4 to make the selection electrode pitch Pw1 and holding electrode pair pitch Px1 difference, maximum probable range of the physical quantity which determines the discharge characteristics of the panel can be obtained. |
