A pipe coupling includes a flared socket (2) for the location of the pipe end. A compression seal ring (3), whose inner end is tapered to match the flared socket (2), has internal knife edge ridges (4) which are pressed into the pipe surface on assembly. Axial webs (6) on the outside of the compression ring are located by the cylindrical bore in the clamp nut(9). The outer end of the ring has a taper(7) to match the flange taper (8) on the clamp nut, in order to transmit the axial clamping force.
