Improvements to studded tyres in which the studs 5 are normally retracted and may project from the periphery of the tread strip 3 if the inflation pressure is increased by a predetermined value; the heads 8 of the studs are embedded in an elastically deformable material 9 lining the internal face of the tread strip 3, the lining thus formed being capable of being compressed if the inflation pressure exceeds the usual value, the said lining 9 being interposed between the internal face of the tread strip and a flexible and strong strip 10. <IMAGE>
