PURPOSE:To judge a proper card in a short period by comparing a length of a first half section of a judging mark with a reference value, judging to be a proper card when it is within an allowable value and judging a latter half section length when the first half section is improper. CONSTITUTION:On a card 10, a judging mark 13 is formed except for a center position. When the card 10 is inserted into a card insert port 27, a mark reader 23 detects and end of the card 10 is turned on, a CPU starts to count by a pulse from a clock pulse generator. When the reader 23 reads a mark 13 and is turned off, the CPU stops the counting, compares the value as a corresponding value to a length l1 of the first half section with a reference value of the first half section of the card, and judges to be proper when the number of the pulses is included in an allowable value. When it is judged that the value is improper, a pulse motor is reversed, the CPU compares the length l2 of the latter half section from a rear end of the card to the mark 13 with a reference value of the latter half section and it is judged to be proper when it is within the allowable value.
