PURPOSE:To extremely suppress the fluctuation range of friction force to a low level and thereby to stabilize the R/W characteristic by providing a gimbals spring in an inclined posture so as to press the downstream of the rotating direction of a disc when an upper magnetic head abuts on the disc. CONSTITUTION:The arm 4 of a magnetic head device is mounted in a posture inclining toward the rotating direction of the disc B by a small angle of thetafrom the gap-forming surface of a magnetic head 5 on the carriage side. Accordingly, a gimbals spring 7 also is inclined by an angle theta. Though the friction force F in the counterclockwise direction and the elastic force G in the clockwise direction by the gimbals spring 7 are applied on the magnetic head 6 during the recording/reproducing, the two forces are made balance by the angle thetaset beforehand. Consequently, the disc 9 and the head 6 closely contact each other, excluding any clearance between the gap and the disc. Therefore, the magnetic resistance does not become larger, and the fluctuation range of friction force is suppressed to very small, and as a result, the R/W characteristic is made stable.
