PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having a thin thickness, a light weight and an improved visibility by holding a function of a substrate to a film of a polarizing plate and the EL light emitting element plate which is used as a light source respectively. CONSTITUTION:The transparent electrode 11, 11' having a prescribed pattern are formed on one of the surfaces of the polarizing plate 10 and the EL light emitting element plate 12 respectively. The polarizing plate 10 and the EL light emitting element plate 12 are opposed inwardly facing the both transparent electrode 11, 11', maintaining a prescribed gap, and then, the liquid crystal substance 13 is filled in the gap followed by fixing the surroundings of the gap with a sealing resin 14. The polarizing plate 10 is prepared by holding the polarizing layer 15 formed by dispersing a dyestuff and an iodine in PVA between the supporting layers 16 composed of a polyester film. The transparent electrode layer 11 compose of the In2O3 thin layer is provided on one side of the surfaces of the polarizing plate 10. The polarizing layer 15 is provided on one of the surfaces of the supporting layer 16 which is composed of a PET, and a PES films and is used to protect the EL layer 17. The supporting layer 16 is also provided on the polarizing layer 15, and the transparent electrode 11' composed of In2O3 is formed on the supporting layer 16. The transparent electrodes 11, 11' may be used opposing each other.
