A welded joint between two plastic pipes (15) made of polyethylene is produced by inserting, into that end of the plastic pipe (15) designed as a socket part, an electrical coil (20) whose individual conductors are embedded in the material of the plastic pipe in the direct vicinity of its inner surface. The ends of the mutually opposite plastic pipes, in particular the parts which can be plugged one into the other, are designed to be complementary to one another and conical. As mould for introducing the coil (20) into the socket part, a longitudinally slit and frustoconically designed coil form (19) is used, which is made of hard polyvinyl chloride and has to have a higher melting point than the polyethylene of the plastic pipe (15). Into this socket part provided with a coil (20), the spigot part of a plastic pipe is inserted, a weld being achieved along the entire lengths of the plastic pipes plugged one inside the other by subsequent connection of the terminals (22) of the coil (20) to an electrical energy source. In this welding process, a large surface-area, high mechanical strength, reliably sealing connection is thus produced between the end regions of two plastic pipes (15) made of the same material. <IMAGE> |
