PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of oil to be added for granulation, by mixing a coal-water slurry containing a binder added thereto with stirring to agglomerate coal particles in the slurry and flowing the slurry through a pipe under turbulent flow conditions. CONSTITUTION:A binder, e.g., an emulsion obtained by emulsifying water with an oil is mixed with a coal-water slurry while stirring to allow coal particles in the coal-water slurry to agglomerate. The agglomerated coal-water slurry is flowed through a pipe under turbulent flow conditions. The flowing through the pipe leads to growth of agglomerated coal particles, frowing a granulated coal. Since the growth of coal particles takes place in a pipe, the adhesion of an oil constituting the binder to wall of the pipe is suppressed, which contributes to reduction of the amount of oil to be added.
