PURPOSE:To attain a program searching in a short time with a simple constitution by outputting a program searching signal encoded by a program searching signal encoding means in such a way that the duty of an output signal is set in the 1st state when information is zero and said duty is set in the 2nd state when the information is '1'. CONSTITUTION:When a switch SW 61 is pressed to set a program number by a program number generating means 62, a VTR is set in a recording mode. Then the information is reported to a microcomputer 66 through a travel control means 60 and is encoded to the program searching signal on the basis of a program number set by the processing of a program searching signal encoding means 63. Then the travel control means 60 detects the rise of a control pulse, sets its output at H level and records the control pulse on a tape 19 through a driver 65 and an AC head 8. The duty of the control pulse is set according to the code of the program searching signal. It is decided at H level less than 50% when the information is zero and at H level more than 50% when the information is '1' with the use of the inner timer of the computer 66.
