PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin by effecting an ionomer forming reaction sufficiently and uniformly without any corrosion problem, by dry-blending an alpha-olefin copolymer containing an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid with a specified metallic crosslinking agent powder and melt-kneading the dry blend. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-olefin copolymer (A), (e.g., ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer) comprising a major proportion of an alpha-olefin (a) and the balance of an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid (b) is dry-blended with 10-90mol%, based on component (b), at least one metallic crosslinking agent powder (B) [e.g., Zn(OH)2] selected from among hydroxides of Groups IIa and IIb elements of the periodic table for 0.1-5min in a mixer. The formed dry blend is melt-kneaded to obtain an ionomer resin of a contaminant index of component B <=20.
