PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic optical fiber having excellent mechanical characteristics and low optical transmission loss by providing a coating of an org. polymer having the flexural modulus X sectional area larger on the outer side onto an optical fiber made into the core-clad construction constituted of specific materials. CONSTITUTION:The primary coating consisting of the material having having epsilon1kg/cm<2> flexural modulus and A1cm<2> sectional area and the secondary coating consisting of the material having epsilon2kg/cm<2> flexural modulus and A2cm<2> sectional area are provided on the optical fiber made into the core-clad construction constituted of a core material layer 1 consisting of a polymer consisting essentially of methyl methacrylate and a clad material layer 2 consisting of a polymer consisting essentially of the repetitive unit expressed by the formula. The materials for the primary coating 4 and secondary coating 5 are the org. polymers satisfying epsilon1A1<=epsilon2A2. R in the repetitive unit of the formula I is preferably an alkyl group of 1-3C or fluorinated alkyl group of 1-3C. The cushion effect of the primary coating layer is weakened unless the relation epsilonA1<=epsilon2A2 is satisfied.
