PURPOSE:To extend the life of the cooling pipes to be inserted into the repair part of a blast furnace wall from the shell into the furnace inside direction and to extend the repair interval of the blast furnace wall by forming the above- mentioned cooling pipes into a double-pipe construction. CONSTITUTION:The cooling pipes 8a, b, c... having U-shaped double-pipe construction are inserted at both ends into refractory bricks 5 and the shell 2 and are supported and fixed via shell pipe seats 9 at required intervals in the blast furnace direction in the repair part 7 of the furnace wall by positioning horizontally the axial center lines thereof. Cooling water is circulated into the gaps formed between the outside pipes and inside pipes of the cooling pipes in the initial period of a continuous operation. The cooling water is circulated into the inside pipes and mortar having high heat conductivity is forced and packed into the gaps between the outside pipes and inside pipes in the ending period of the continuous operation.
