Direct-evaporation steam generator comprising a jacket 1, in which a shielded electrical resistor 2 is immersed. One of the ends of the jacket 1 is provided in its centre with an inlet for pressurised water 15. The water emerges in the centre of a stack of mobile plates 4, 6, 7, 8 which are pierced in their centre and applied against one another on the internal face 3 of the jacket 1 by means of an unpierced plate 10 and of an elastic return means 11. The jacket is closed at its other end by a plug 12 equipped with a steam-recovery connection 21. Application in particular to ironing machines and irons. <IMAGE>
