A process for seeding a cupola furnace melt and moulding for use in this process

In order to simplify the seeding of a cupola furnace melt by means of a seeding alloy, added thereto, in a reproducible manner, the seeding alloy is bound into a moulding, consisting essentially of metallurgical silicon carbide, a binder such as, for example, Portland cement, and, if appropriate, fillers, and the moulding is lowered through the cupola furnace shaft into the cupola furnace melt. A moulding for use in this process essentially contains metallurgical silicon carbide, a binder such as, for example, Portland cement, a filler if appropriate and additionally a seeding alloy.
