The invention relates to a method for securing a double-seat valve against the forcing open of its two independently movable closing elements and a device for implementing the said method. The invention ensures that, both in the closed position and in each partially open position - necessary for seat cleaning - of the valve discs, the valve discs cannot be forced open by pressures from fluids present in the valve and acting intentionally or unintentionally on the said discs. These advantages are achieved, inter alia, by the fact that, in the closed position of the double-seat valve, the first valve rod, which is connected to the smaller valve disc, is locked with positive engagement relative to a fixed component of the double-seat valve to such an extent that it can in all cases assume its partially open position - which position can be produced by means of the secondary adjusting device - and that, upon activation of the main adjusting device for the purpose of transferring the double-seat valve into its open position, the locking between the valve rod and the fixed component under consideration is cancelled at the correct time (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
