PURPOSE:To make the transmitting operation of a facsimile equipment easy by so forming the titled system that a busy tone signal detector part detecting a busy tone signal from a line, generates a control signal to actuate a switching part and a reader part, and the picture information of an original read by the reader part is stored in a storage part. CONSTITUTION:When a mode key 21 on a control console 2 is depressed, a control part 3 controls the switching part 18 to connect to a contact point (a). This case is of (point-point) communication mode, and hence the picture information from the reader part 14 is directly transmitted to a control part 16, and after being compressed, transmitted to a line 10 via a transmitter- receiver part 8 and a modem 9. On the other hand when a mode key 22 is depressed, the part 18 is switched to a contact point (b) by the control part 4. This is a case of broadcast mode, and hence the picture information from the part 14 is temporarily stored (accumulated) in the storage part 17, and thereafter compressed by the control part 16 and transmitted.
