PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a catalytic converter by pressing a peripheral-surface protecting member and a sealing member in a compression station and applying shell half bodies in an assembly station and carrying out temporary welding, thus facilitating the joint of the shell half bodies. CONSTITUTION:An insertion collected body 42 constituted by installing a peripheral-surface protecting member and a sealing member onto a catalyst is erected and installed onto a loading board 24 in an assembly station 39, and raised to a compression station 40, in the interposed state between a pressing member 26 and the loading board 24. In said compression station 40, the peripheral-surface protecting member and the sealing member are pressed by a pressing member. The both shell half bodies are applied onto the insertion collected body which lowers onto the assembly station 39 by the approach and transfer of the transfer boards 28 and 29 from the both sides, and the temporary welding for the shell half bodies is carried out by a welding arm 31. |
