发明名称 FORMATION OF BASE MATERIAL FOR OPTICAL FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To form stably the titled base material for optical fiber contg. a dopant by depositing and growing fine glass particles on the leading end of a hollow seed rod, infiltrating a dopant material into the obtained porous base material through the seed rod, then heating the material and making the material transparent. CONSTITUTION:A raw gas consisting of SiCl4, Ar, O2, H2, etc., is supplied to a torch 3 and the gas is hydrolyzed to form fine SiO2 particles which are deposited and grown on the leading end of a seed rod 1 and a porous glass base material 2 is obtained. A hollow body having a small hole at the leading end is used as the seed rod 1 and a gaseous or liq. dopant material is infiltrated into the glass base material 2 through the hollow rod. Then the porous glass base material is heated to obtain a transparent glass base material. Consequently, a base material for optical fiber contg. various dopants and without any cracks, etc., can be easily and stably formed.
