PURPOSE:To obtain the titled medium having excellent magnetic characteristic and corrosion resistance by providing specified composition and characteristic to the magnetic film of the magnetic medium obtained by forming a substrate layer and the magnetic film layer on the surface of a discoid substrate. CONSTITUTION:A substrate layer and a magnetic film layer are formed on the surface of a discoid substrate. The magnetic layer is formed with a noble metal-base Co alloy contg. 3-15atom% 1 or >=2 kinds among Mo, V and W, 3-15atom% 1 or >=2 kinds of noble metals among Pt, Rh, Ru, Re, Pd, Ir, etc., and >=75atom% Co. Furthermore, an h.c.p crystal consisting essentially of crystal grains having 100-500Angstrom grain diameter and whose C axis is substantially in the plane is formed.
