PURPOSE:To improve the white background of a print and to prevent Y stains during storage in the dark by forming an emulsion layer hardened with a specified compd. and an emulsion layer contg. a specified magenta coupler and specified in pH on a support. CONSTITUTION:The emulsion layer formed on the support is hardened with one of compds. represented by formulae I and II in which R1 is Cl, OH, alkoxy, OM, M being a monovalent metal, or the like; R2 is same as R1 except for Cl; R3, R4 are each Cl, OH, alkyl, alkoxy, or OM; Q, Q' are each -O-, -S-, or -NH-; L is alkylene or the like; and l, m are each 0 or 1. Another emulsion layer controlled to the pH of 5.0-6.0 contains the magenta coupler represented by formula III in which Z is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to form an N-contg. hetero ring optionally substd., X is a group to be released by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent and R is H or a substituent. As a result, the emulsion layer can be rapidly hardened even in such a low pH by use of said hardener and superior gloss and strong scratch resistance can be obtained, desensitization due to raw storage and the generation of stains due to long period storage are reduced. |
