PURPOSE:To produce the titled additive at low cost, by heating a mixture of ethyl laurate with ethyl linoleate, p-ethyltoluene, methylamine, etc. under pressure to allow them to react with each other, and quenching the reaction mixture. CONSTITUTION:Ethyl laurate, ethyl linoleate, p-ethyltoluene, methylamine and a catalyst (e.g.: PbO) are fed from a raw material tank 1 through an agitator 7 and an on-off valve 3 into a reaction vessel 2. The inside of the reaction vessel 2 is pressurized by introducing an inert gas from a gas cylinder 8. The contents of the reaction vessel 2 are heated with a thermal control unit 5 equipped with an electric heater and a thermosensor 5, and the reaction is allowed to proceed under a pressure of about 30kg/cm<2> at 110+ or -5 deg.C for 100-120min. The heating is stopped, and the reaction mixture is cooled to ordinary temp. A liquefied nitrogen gas is fed from a gas cylinder 9 into the reaction vessel 2 to quench the reaction mixture. The internal pressure of the reaction vessel 2 is set at 70-80kg/cm<2>, and the reaction mixture in the reaction vessel 2 is kept at a temp. of -20--30 deg.C for about 1hr. The reaction mixture is taken out into a product tank 10 by reducing the pressure of the inside of the reaction vessel 2 to obtain an additive for increasing power of a fuel comprising a hydrocarbon, which is polymerization product having an ultrahigh molecular weight.
