For the metered delivery of bulk material from a container (1), a metering body (6) carries out continuous lifting movements in the container outlet (2). In order to interrupt the discharge of bulk material from the container completely, the metering body (6) is lowered through a substantially cylindrical outlet shaft (10) down to an inwardly projecting annular sealing seat (11). The metering body (6) carrying out the metering movement thus serves simultaneously as a closure body. This results in a simple construction with a low constructional height (drawing). <IMAGE>
