PURPOSE:To improve the degree of skill and the operation efficiency of a user by analyzing inputted data and outputted application information and extracting only the most suitable item as help information from pertinent help information and outputting it. CONSTITUTION:Data inputted from an input part 1 is transferred to a help control function part 312 of an internal storage part 3. The function part 312 stores this data in a data storage part 32. An application processing function part 313 outputs response data for input data to an output part 2. When the user requests help, this request is analyzed. Display items are selected from a dictionary for help item list in an external storage part 4 on a basis of analyzed information, and the list is displayed to the output part 2. When the user selects each item, the selected item is displayed under the list. Pertinent help information stored in the storage part 4 is retrieved by the selected item. If pertinent help information exists, this item is extracted and is displayed on the output part 2. If he wants to continue questioning, the selection range of an item dictionary is changed to perform the similar operation.
