PURPOSE:To shorten a transmission time and to facilitate data processing by adding a scanner and a high-speed modem (modulator) to a depicted image communication device. CONSTITUTION:The scanner 2 is connected to a control part 5 and a drawing image or simple printed matter, etc., is read optically in batch transmission mode and converted into an electric signal of a dot pattern, which is supplied to a microprocessor (MP) 45 through an interface 53. The high-speed modem 57 and a low-speed modem 58 are connected to the MP 54 and a subscriber line 6 through modem switches 56a and 56b and those switches are controlled by the MP 54. Image to be sent are classified by three kinds, i.e. only an image read by the scanner 2, an only a drawing image inputted manually on a drawing pad 3, and a composite image obtained by correcting the image inputted from the scanner 2 with the hand depicted image inputted from the depicting pad 3, and the images are transmitted to the opposite device through the high-speed modem.
