PURPOSE:A grafted composite excellent in dispersibility in a solvent, a resin or the like and suitable for use in the field of, e.g., a magnetic recording material, obtained by graft-polymerizing a monomer containing an N-vinylcarbazole compound on a barium ferrite powder. CONSTITUTION:About several - 100mol% N-vinylcarbazole compound (e.g., N-vinylcarbazole) is mixed with a monomer copolymerizable therewith (e.g., methyl methacrylate or acrylonitrile). The resulting monomer mixture containing the N-vinylcarbazole compound is polymerized in the presence of a barium ferrite powder to obtain the purpose grafted composite composed of the barium ferrite powder grafted with the monomer containing the N-vinylcarbazole compound. This composite can be easily and uniformly mixed with a resin or the like and can be easily formed into a film or sheet excellent in mechanical strength.
