PROCESS FOR CONTINUOUSLY PREPARING ETHYLENE GLYCOL

Ethylene glycol is prepd. for use as a solvent, reagent, raw material of polyester fiber. Carbon monoxide is contacted with nitrous ester on metal catalyst of a platinum group to give a mixt. containing oxalic diester. This mixt. is condensed, and the condensed liquid containing oxalic diester is seperated. The condensed liquid is hydrogenated to give a product containing ethylene glycol. This product is distilled, and alcohol is drained off, and then ethylene glycol is obtained. The drained alcohol and non condensed nitrous ester is circulated again.
