In order to provide a process for the electrofusion of cells in which the cells are fused together in membrane contact and by means of a suitable magnetic field and in which specific fusion of two cells is possible in a simple way, it is proposed that the cells be immobilised on a first and on a second support, that the two supports be arranged so that the cells immobilised thereon are mutually opposite, that the cells be moved towards one another so that essentially pairs of cells are formed which comprise one cell from the first and one cell from the second support, and that the cells in the pairs be subsequently fused.
