The crank mechanism-forming system for a reciprocating piston machine or engine, especially a piston machine but also an internal combustion engine can be statically and dynamically balanced by means of a first counterweight, the crank itself and the pairs of planet wheels, for balancing of the reciprocating mass. It involves a straight linkage, which can be described from the known Cardan circle. In this the lantern gear overlaps 1 (or 2) pairs of planet wheels, which roll about the bearing gear fixed to the housing and at the same time determine the kinematics of this mechanism. The internal bore of the bearing gear can be designed as housing bearing. Consequently this crank mechanism essentially requires little internal space and can be manufactured in different design forms.
