<p>A stabilizing system for use in joining flanged pipe sections (1, 2) in an underwater environment to reduce the time needed to perform this difficult task, especially in rough waters, including at least one flange stabilizing element (opposed pair sets 10, 20) having a back plate portion (11, 21) with a support portion or tray (12, 22) affixed orthogonally to it to provide laterally spaced lines of support. At least one stub (13, 23) extends orthogonally to the back plate (11, 21) and is received in bolt hole(s) (102) of the end flange (101) opposite to the flange end (201) being stabilized. Openings (14, 24) and locking key(s) (30) are included to lock the stabilizing element(s) (10, 20) to the first pipe flange (101). Once the second flanged pipe (201) is guided next to the first flange pipe section (101) and the two bolted together, the flange stabilizing element(s) (10, 20) and locking key(s) (30) may be removed and reused.</p> |
