PURPOSE:To obtain a color reproduced picture with a high resolution and high picture quality by recording sound signals modulated to four-phase PSK and four-DPSK on a chrominance signal track, which is separated in a tape width direction, recorded and formed, independent of a luminance signal recording track in such a way that the sound signal is subjected to frequency division multiplex. CONSTITUTION:Recording tracks Ty1-Ty16 on a magnetic tape 65 are alternately scanned at every field by rotating heads Y1 and Y2. After a previously recorded FM luminance signal is reproduced, it is supplied to rotary transformers 441 and 442, a switch circuit for making signals continuous and a reproduction preamplifier 70. Simultaneously recording tracks Tc1-Tc16 on the magnetic tape 65 are alternately scanned at every field by rotating heads C1 and C2, and a previously recorded frequency division multiplex signal is reproduced. Said signal is supplied to band-pass filters 73, 74 and 75 through a reproduction preamplifier 72 and the switch circuit making a signal into a continuous one and rotary transformers 541 and 542.
