PURPOSE:To execute quickly and easily the recovery of retrieving data by providing a backup use optical disk for recording a retrieving data of a storage means separately from an optical disk for accumulating an image data, and duplicating the retrieving data of the backup use optical disk to the storage means, when the retrieving data of the storage means has been lost. CONSTITUTION:Plural image data inputted from the outside by a floppy disk 7 or a magnetic tape 8 are accumulated in optical disks 11a, 11b,... of an optical disk library device 2, also an image identifying code is recorded as a retrieving data in a magnetic disk 3, and its data are duplicated to a backup use optical disk 12 which was provided on the library 2. A retrieval instruction which has been inputted by keyboards 16a, 16b is inputted to an image accumulating and retrieving device 1, read out of the optical disks 11a, 11b... through a CPU 6, and displayed on displays 17a, 17b. When the retrieving data recorded in the disk 3 been lost, the retrieving data is read out of the disk 12 and duplicated to the disk 3.
