PURPOSE:To make switching of a mode and correspondence to characters clear, and to improve the opreability by providing a character display means for displaying the present character of each key, and a means for switching a display of its display means as soon as the mode is switched. CONSTITUTION:The present character of each key switch 4 is displayed on a character display device 3 which has been connected to a mode switching control part 2 of a keyboard. In this state, when a mode switching device 1 is operated, mode switching information is sent to a character code converter 5 from the control part 2, and simultaneously, the display of the indicator 3 is switched. Also, when one of the key switches 4 is operated, key selecting information is brought to code conversion, and the character displayed on the indicator 3 is brought to code conversion and inputted to a body device 6. In this way, switching of the mode and the character are made clear, the operability of the keyboard is improved, and an unskilled person can execute an operation easily.
