The device consists of an array of detecting elements (4) receiving the useful infra-red flux coming from the observed scene. Each of the detecting elements is fixed on a cold support (2) inside a vessel (6) from which the air is removed or which is filled with a gas of low thermal conductivity. A thin wafer of optical fibres (1), attached firmly to the cold support and transparent in the desired spectral band, is placed in the vessel either in contact with, or at a short distance from, the detecting elements and behind an observation window (5) which is transparent at least in the said spectral band.
