PURPOSE:To make it possible to arrange an engine room far away from a propeller device for ships, etc., by constituting a propeller drive source with a linear motor which is composed of a propeller duct and a hull side stator. CONSTITUTION:The thrust force of propeller blades 42 journalled to bearings 52, 53 are received by bearings 62, 64. The rotor conductor 66 and rotor iron core 68 of a linear motor are embedded in the outer peripheral surface of a propeller duct 44. Meanwhile the stator 70 of a three-phase linear induction motor is laid on a hull 46 in opposite to the duct 44. These members all submerge in the water. Thus, in such a propeller device, it is unnecessary to couple the rotary shaft 40 of the propeller blades 42 disposed in the propeller duct 44, mechanically with the motor in the full 46 with no wiring being made to the propeller duct 44 while the propeller may be rotated in the water. Accordingly, an engine room may be arranged far away from the propeller device, thereby it is possible to avoid raising the problem of water-tight seal.
