EXAMPLE:1-Benzyl-3, 3-dimethylspiro[indolin-2, 3'-[3H]-naphtho[2, 1-b](1,4)oxazine]. USE:A photochromic material for printing and photography, a photochromic material for optical devices, photochromic material for recording materials, or photochromic material for clothes and accesories, having improved resistance to fatigue of coloring and decoloring of light, capable of changing absorption maximum during coloring in a large range by exchanging a substitutent group or a matrix resin. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with an alkyl halide shown by the formula R(CH2)nX to give a compound shown by theformual III, which is reacted with a basic substance such as triethylamine, etc., and alpha-nitroso-beta-naphthol.
