The invention relates to such a method, in which each image dot contains a predetermined number of printing dot positions which can be occupied selectively by printing dots of at least one colour. The aim is to simplify the equipment required for this purpose and make it less expensive. In this case, the object to be achieved is to further reduce the number of printing dot positions per image dot and to use printing dots with less variation in size.
