The sewing machine to developed piped openings in the fabric being stitched has an electromotor with a needle positioning unit and a common drive for an arm shaft of the twin-needle sewing machine, the fabric advance mechanism and the cutter to work simultaneously. At least one incremental pulse generator delivers pulses according to the sliding movement of the fabric advance mechanism and the movable position of the angle cutting blade. A microcomputer, with an ROM, has input units and a control for insertion of the machine-related geometric data and the manually-inserted length and correction values for the piped opening. With the pulses from the incremental pulse generator, command signals are delivered for the upwards and downwards movement of the needles, the operation of the central blade, and the stop and start actions of the angle cutting blade. Pred. additional electro-motor is provided to operate the fabric advance mechanism and the cutter. The inputs are multi-position preselector switches or keys. The outputs at the electro-motor are magnetic valves or electro-magnetic clutches, at least one motor. The second electro-motor if fitted, is a DC motor or a step motor.
