PURPOSE:To obtain a heating element structure capable of raising temperature at a high rate, by adding an oxygen-generating compound to a heat-generating composition utilizing heat of oxidation. CONSTITUTION:The heating element comprises a composition 2 comprising a metallic powder, a reaction assistant, a water-retaining agent or the like as main constituents and capable of generating heat in the presence of oxygen or water, the composition being enclosed in a gas-permeable bag 1 or a container. A crystalline oxygen-generating compound 3 such as inorganic peroxide and sodium percarbonate is added to the hating element by mixing the compound 3 into the composition 2 or by separately providing the compound 3 in a water-permeable or water-soluble support bag 4 and incorporating the bag 4 into the composition or placing the bag 4 adjacently to the composition. In use, temperature rise can be accelerated by accelerating the oxidation reaction by generating oxygen through adding water. Alternatively, a liquid oxygen- generating compound 5 such as perchloric acid and hydrogen peroxide is contained in a liquid bag 6, and the bag is broken at the time of use, whereby heat generation is accelerated through generation of oxygen. |
