PURPOSE:To promote heating of seawater by solar rays, by covering seawater by a transparent cover. CONSTITUTION:The surface of seawater is covered by a sheet which is transparent to solar rays and impermeable to gases. By this, evaporation of water from the surface can be restrained, and therefore, release o heat due to the latent heat of evaporation can be reduced to substantially zero. In addition, by shielding the seawater surface and the atmosphere from each other, the release of heat from the surface into the atmosphere by convection or radiation can be markedly reduced. When the seawater surface is covered by a vinyl cover, the average temperature is raised by 10 deg.C at maximum as compared with the case of not covering the surface, and when this is applied to marine temperature difference power generation plant, a marked effect can be achieved through the extremely simple method.
