This invention relates to process for producing pulp, which is used for paper mfr.. Wood chips are fed to a digester and are soaked with warm black liquor fed from an accumulator to remove excess air. The liquor is then displaced by hot black and white liquor. The digester is then raised to cooking temp.. Liquor in the digester is then displaced by hot black and white liquor pumped from a second accumulator. The temp. is again raised to cooking temp.. After the chips are cooked, the liquor is displaced with pulp washing filtrate and the digester discharged by applying compressed air.
