In a method for cleaning a receptacle filling machine having a boiler for the filling liquid, on which a plurality of downwardly projecting filling elements are arranged, once the cleaning liquid has emerged from the filling nozzle and the return air pipe, it is deflected upwards, is moved further upwards, divided into two partial streams, through the bore of the centring bell and along the outside casing of the centring bell, is then guided further upwards on the outside surface of the filling element and is finally collected. In this manner, all the important inside and outside regions of the filling element are forcibly permeated by large quantities of liquid and are therefore intensively cleaned, it being possible to maintain a closed liquid circuit at all times. <IMAGE>
