Suction feeder with a suction head the glass reception chamber of which can be connected to a source of subatmospheric pressure and which is disposed on a carrying arm which can be moved back and forth by means of a sliding carriage along a guide between a glass reception point, in which the suction head is arranged with its reception opening directed downwards above a glass melt in a melting furnace or the like, and a glass discharge point which is provided outside the melting furnace. In order to facilitate the production of hand-blown, in particular also large and heavy, hollow glass vessels as regards the handling and the heat stressing and to achieve qualitatively better results with less energy consumption and less residual glass within a shorter time, the suction feeder is designed in such a manner that the suction head is mounted so as to be pivotable through approximately 180 DEG about a pivot axis extending approximately parallel to the longitudinal direction of the guide between the glass reception position, with downwardly directed reception opening, and a glass discharge position, with a glass reception chamber which is accessible for example from above for a hand-blowing iron or the like.
