A striking implement (e.g. a hockey stick) comprising a hollow striking member and a separate hollow handle member is made by injecting a fibre-reinforced thermoplastics material around a fusible core, allowing the injected material to set, melting out the fusible core and subsequently joining the moulded hollow striking portion to the moulded hollow handle portion. The striking member and handle member are made of different thermoplastic materials. At least one of the fusible cores may be provided with a through-slot so that the injected material sets therein to produce a corresponding internal strut in the finished moulding. The method can be used to produce other sports implements (e.g. sticks for polo, ice-hockey or hurling) and other striking implements (e.g. bats, hammers, mallets, batons or truncheons). |
