<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, in high yield and purity, economically on an industrial scale, safely under mild reaction condition, without producing by-product, by the Gabriel synthesis of a prenyl halide compound. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I can be produced by the Gabriel synthesis of the compound of formula IV (X is halogen; n is 3 or 4). For example, the prenyl halide compound of formula IV is made to react with equivalent or slightly excess alkali metal phthalimide of formula V (M is Li, Na, K, etc.) in a proper solvent according to the reaction formula and the resultant novel intermediate compound of formula II is reacted with 1 - about 2 equivalent of hydrazine hydrate in a proper solvent to obtain the objective compound of formula I.</p> |
