PURPOSE:To attain the press contact and detach of a recording head without a special drive source, and to switch selectively whether press contact of the recording head is required or not in a simple way by releasing selectively the recording head in response to the position of an original platen. CONSTITUTION:An energying member 42 to press the recording head 8 into contact onto recording paper 9, a holding member 45 blocking the press contact of the recording head onto the recording paper and a release member 46 releasing the holding are provided and the releasing operation by the release member 46 is attained selectively by moving a selection lever 48 operated in response to the position of the original platen 1 mounting a read original. The original platen is moved to a prescribed position to move the selection lever pressing the recording head selectively, and when the selection lever is moved by the original platen, the recording head is pressed into contact in interlocking with the operation of a carriage 2, and when the selection lever is not moved, the recording head is not pressed into contact even if the carriage is reciprocated.
