PURPOSE:To execute the communication without fail and to shorten the communicating time by storing the calling code and the optimum communicating speed of the transmitting destination, retrieving the calling code and communicating at the communicating speed which is stored. CONSTITUTION:The dial is first called by the telephone number of the transmit ting destination, and the telephone number of a CSI (called station identifying signal) answered from the receiving side is received. When a main control part 3a sends the telephone number to a communicating speed retrieving part 12a, the communicating speed retrieving part 12a retrieves the telephone number registered to a communicating speed memory part 11a by the telephone number. At the time of 'Present' as the result, the corresponding optimum communicat ing speed is read and sent to the main control part 3a. Then, the main control part 3a starts the training from the optimum communicating speed, and transmits the picture data. At the time of 'Absent', when the matter is sent to the main control part 3a, the main control part 3a starts the training from the optimum communicating speed, determines the communicating speed in which the transmitting data is not damaged, and executes the transmission.
