PURPOSE:To automatically obtain a most appropriate color balance by supplying a part of a light beam that is supplied to a video camera through a color correcting means to a density measuring means that measures a large area average transmission density, and controlling a color correction state based upon a result of comparison between above value and a density output when a film to be observed is equipped. CONSTITUTION:When a film F to be observed is equipped, the large area average transmission density of three color primaries of the light beam that is transmitted the film F is measured at a density control measuring means 13 and also, the result measured is supplied to a control means 17 and a density ratio is calculated. The control means 17 compares the density ratio already stored when the most appropriate color balance is obtained at the time when a reference film is equipped with the density ratio obtained when an easily observable film F is equipped at a comparison process part 172, and based upon the compared result, a control output part 173 outputs an appropriate control signal to a driving control means 18 and operates to control a color correcting means 6 to produce the prescribed relation between both density ratios.
