摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the element having a simple constitution and a small in size and a thin shape and suitable to an optical isolator by directly forming a monolayer or a multilayer of Cd1-XMnXTe thin film having different (x) values on the substrate, thereby enabling a large Farady rotating angle at a room temperature. CONSTITUTION:The substrate 12 which is optionally heated by a heater 13 at a backside thereof is placed on an accelerating electrode 11 serving to a holder, CdTe in a crucible 4 and MnTe in a crucible 4 and MnTe in a crucible 4' are heated with the heaters 6, 6' respectively and are vaporized. The obtd. vapor is spouted from nozzles 5, 5' into a high vacuum atmosphere. The ionized cluster coming from ionizing chambers 7, 7' constituting by ionizing filaments 8, 8', ionizing electrodes 9, 9' and shielding electrodes 10, 10' is vapor-deposited on a surface of the substrate 12 through an opening part of a shutter 17 to form a thin film 16 of a crystal of Cd1-XMnXTe (0.01<=x<=0.99). For example, the Cd1-XMnXTe film 16 is formed on a polarizer 15 of the substrate. When the magnetic field is applied to the film as shown by an arrow, and the straight line polarization L1 is an incidence, the light L2 reflected in a waveguide is completely cut off with the polarizer 15.
