PURPOSE:To shorten the inspection time by setting flags in flag areas provided correspondingly to character data when an operator corrects character data and inspecting character data, for which flags are set, at the inspection time after correction. CONSTITUTION:Character data 1 read by an OCR 3 is stored in a memory 42 by a CPU 41. The operator displays data stored in the memory 42 on a display device 5 and confirms a form 2 to correct data. A terminal controller 4 compares data sent to the device 5 with contents of a data part 12 of data turned back from the device 5 in a comparing part 43, and if a different or unreadable character is detected, a flag is set in a flag area 113, and character data is stored in a file 6. An inspector performs a prescribed operation of a display device 7 and causes the CPU 41 to inspect and display character data stored in the file 6. At this time, character data for which flags are set are inspected. Thus, the inspection time is shortened.
